Cosmopolitan Club Plans July Street Fair and Activities

At the May meeting three new members joined the Cosmopolitan club and Miss Laurel Huff was elected to the Junior club. Plans call for a mammoth street fair around early July. Officer appointments include Mrs. Roscoe P. McFadden president and Mrs. Granville Colby secretary treasurer. The club will host a Maine State Federation convention in Waterville May 24 25 26 with Mrs. LaFell Dickinson as guest of honor and reservations via Miss Merce Morse.

Fire at Olympia Spa prompts city fire response

Engine Four of the local fire department answered a still alarm at 10 Monday morning to Olympia Spa at 66 Center Street where a rear kitchen fire gained headway before crews could control it. An alarm from Box 45 was transmitted and the all clear followed at 10 20. A second blaze at this location within a month is suspected tohave the same cause.

Mrs Santaspago to Join Coast Guard Husband in Miami

Mrs Peter Santaspago of Wesley Hills Massachusetts visits her mother Mrs Forest Shepard in Bath. She formerly was Miss Shirley Shepard of Bath and plans to join her husband Peter Santaspago Snc United States Coast Guard in Miami where he is stationed at the Sub Chaser Training Center.

Tire Recapping Plan Benefits Bath Iron Works Employees

Bath Iron Works Transportation department operates a tire recapping loan plan for about 2000 employees who carpool to the yard. The firm provides loaned tires from local dealers with no rent or service charges, limiting costs to the recapping price. Employees may recap multiple tires at once and reuse loaned tires until notified to swap, with Edgren reporting high efficiency and favorable reception.

Girl Scout Council Opens May Meeting at Stone House

Physical Education Exhibition At Morse High Gym

Bath invites all citizens to an exhibit at Morse High School gym Friday at 7 40 p m featuring more than 300 pupils from grades and high school in obstacle races tumbling rope climbs and calisthenics. The event is directed by Duncan H Farrell and Miss Anne Gipson with the Bath schools band performing under Violet Dyer.

A lengthy session reviewed creation and supervision of a recreation committee for playgrounds with funding plans. Mayor Rogers appointed several Aldermen to the panel, aims to recruit citizens at large, and adjourned without final setup action.

Crafts Buys Center Street Block in Bath

William J. Craft of Crafts Battery Service purchases 101 Center street from Fred N. Thompson. The property includes the former Joseph Avery stable and Central House with the rear structures. The landmark livery site, now a car body shop, will receive improvements while current tenants remain.

Oil Tanks Topic At A Hearing On Monday Evening

North Erd residents near oil storage tanks at Middletreet tested before Maine State Insurance representatives at a public hearing in City Hall. They fear fire or explosion threatening homes and lives. The tanks are leased from Norman O Howard and James A Clappison. An old underground drain may have carried gasoline into a main sewer, affecting nearby basements. Witnesses cited spillages and improper drainage. officials noted lack of hydrostatic testing and long-standing concerns.
