The Vacationland Sportscar club met in West Bath to plan an Idiot's Delight Rally set for Sunday at 3 30 p.m. starting Dartmouth street and Forest avenue Portland. Trophies were awarded to John Carlton and wife for March gymkhana ice events. Carlton named club photographer. Elenbass and Gilley to study the Sports Car Club of America.
Mr and Mrs Victor H Pinkham announce the engagement of their daughter Sylvia Ann to Franklin R MacNeil son of Mr and Mrs Cecil MacNeil of Bath. Sylvia a Morse High School 1956 graduate and Gorham State Teachers College student. Franklin a Morse High graduate with four years Navy service now employed at Hyde Windlass Co Bath. A Fall wedding is planned.
The Fire Department recently added a portable pumper to its equipment aided by eighty dollars raised as proceeds from a community supper hosted by the Good Neighbors Club. Numerous local residents and friends visited town over the weekend including families from Bath Gorham Richmond Gorham and Southport in this North Bath area.
Local and district officials met Saturday to discuss a council meeting of Spanish American War auxiliaries on May 19. Deputy Junior Vice Dorothy Wright and Jessie Morrell of the Ernest Edgar Kate Auxiliary attended, with Deputy President Doris Brooks of Lewiston and Deputy Senior Vice Agnes Harmon of Brunswick. Officials also outlined plans for the June 15 convention in Portland.
Capt Frank Jewell Walker veteran marine and railroad engineer died Thursday afternoon at a Woolwich nursing home at age 80. Born February 5, 1877 in Portland he traveled worldwide commanding private yachts and serving in engine rooms on ships including S S Tremont and City of Portland. He married Georgia Reed in 1900 and leaves his widow and daughter Mrs Russell Boyd of Boston.
Mrs. Vera Eleanor Lakin 60 died Sunday at 17 Meadow Way. Funeral held Tuesday at Curtis Funeral Home with Rev. Martin v B Sargent of Winter Street Congregational church officiating. Burial in Oak Grove. Born Trevett Oct 6 1896 she was daughter of Sumner and Sarah Barter. Surviving husband Samuel P Lakin two sons Donald W and Samuel P Jr two daughters Shirley G White and Beulah J Leavitt two brothers Philip and Thuron Barter a sister Gertrude Hutchins nine grandchildren two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Harold Frederick Cothran 55 of 2 Pleasant Avenue died Sunday at Bath Memorial Hospital. Funeral held Tuesday at 3 30 p.m. at Curtis Funeral Home with Rev. Charles R. Sims officiating. Burial in Oak Grove. Born in Bath September 8 1901 he was the son of J Frederick and Mary Crane Cothran and longtime Bath resident. He worked in maintenance at the Bath Opera House and served at the North End shipyard of the Texas Steamship Company during World War I. Survivors include his father a brother Stanley F. Cothran of New Britain Connecticut two sisters Evelyn Gagne and Louise Corhan of Bath and several nieces and nephews.
George Frederick Allen 84 died Friday evening at Bath Memorial hospital. Funeral service set for Monday at 2 p.m. from Curtis Funeral Home with burial in Oak Grove. Former Bath Police marshal born January 6, 1873 in Thomaston. Survived by daughter Mrs. Elmert Williams Bath three great grandchildren.
Mrs Florence Owen wife of Professor George Owen died Wednesday morning at her Newton home. Professor Owen, known in Bath for involvement with the yacht Distance built at Bath Iron Works. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Second Church of West Newton.
Eveleth Weeks Safford died Saturday at her Rochester New Hampshire home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Congregational church in Rochester. She formerly lived in Bath and is survived by husband Percival H. Safford two sisters Olive Weeks Trufant and Frances Weeks Parker Egypt Massachusetts and one brother Charles D. Weeks Bath.
Funeral services for Harold F. Cothran were conducted at 3.30 Tuesday afternoon at Curtis funeral home. Rev. Charles R. Sims officiated with bearers Peter Lebel John Lebel Frasier Haynes and Timothy Smith. Burial was in the family lot at Oak Grove.
The Morse High School 55 member band will take part in the Western Maine Music Audition Festival at Biddeford on May 11 The event runs two days with six to seven thousand musicians expected Morse Band ettes audition at 10 30 a m at St Joseph hall parade and mass band concert cap the festival with field drills ending at the athletic field Accompanying Morse are Mr and Mrs Cecil Fullerton and Mrs Stanley R Hunter.
Funeral services for Eva Jane Hutchins 72 of FaIperburg died Sunday at a Bath nursing home were held at West Point Chapel. Burial followed in Holland Cemetery. She was born Feb 10 1885 at West Point to John and Elizabeth Huff and attended Harpswell and Portland schools. She belonged to the West Point Community Church. Survivors include husband Frederick Hutchins daughter Marion Smith of West Point three grandchildren four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Walker were held at 2 p m Saturday at the Curtis funeral home with the Rev Dr David L Wilson officiating at Eastern Star rites Honorary bearers included Roswell C Haskell Linwood E Temple Karcher S Jackson Donald T Page Donald C Freeman Frank G Allen and Frank A Donnell Active bearers were Herbert Munsey Mason Carter Arthur Brown Howard Kirkpatrick eil Doak and Edward Galant Burial followed in Riverside cemetery Days Ferry
Funeral services for Thornton G. Henderson were held at Beacon Street Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Arnold officiating. Bearers included John McLaughlin John Bourque Philip Trainor Robert Stevens George Perry and Harold Perry. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery Lisbon Falls. A memorial service was held at A. F. Mayo & Son funeral residence led by Exalted Ruler Donald J. Emero and Bath Lodge of Elks officers.
Chester A. Lewis aged 74 of 716 Middle Street died Monday afternoon at Bath Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for several days. Born in Somerville Massachusetts on August 16 1882 he was the son of Arthur and Emma Lewis and had resided in the city since 1911. There are no survivors.
Funeral service for Mrs Vera E Lakin was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Curtis Funeral Home with Rev Martin v B Street Congregational church officiating. Bearers were Ralph W White Jr, Franklin Leavitt Jr, Franklin Leavitt Sr, and Frederick Bishop. Burial followed in Oak Grove.
Funeral services for John B. DesPres were held at 8 30 a m from his home at 11 Shaw street followed by a Requiem High Mass at St Mary s Church. Rev John E Bellefontaine officiated with bearers Gerard Bonnevie Aurele Bonnevie Norman Bonnevie William Jackson Gerard Bourgeois and Harry Roux. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
