Captain Herold Nickerson of Brunswick maneuvered the lighter Lon up the Androscoggin from Merrymeeting Bay to Brunswick amid a strong current. At the Narrows near Merrymeeting Park, hawsers were used to reef ashore and pull the craft, then it was towed by three launches. The lighter reached its destination Monday night to assist Merritt Chapman Scott Corp of New London in replacing the wrecked Maine Central railroad bridge between Brunswick and Topsham.
