Teen-Age Sewing Circle of Bath with Junior Boosters and Harvesters sent members to Auburn I O O F hall for a full day style dress review. Girls modeled aprons skirts and dresses, walked the floor for judges, and had sewing judged earlier at the county office. Prizes included blue red and white ribbons with several girls earning special awards and a 4 H locket.

Mrs Thelma Mittendorf was reelected president of the Bath Business and Professional Women's club at City Hall auditorium. New officers include Etta Thurlow vice president Mildred Albee treasurer Mabel Merrill recording secretary Carolyn Carpenter corresponding secretary. The May 16 anniversary meeting will be at Sedgwick with Damariscotta club guests. Delegates were chosen for the State convention at Poland Spring House June 3 and 4 with Senator Margaret Chase Smith as banquet speaker. The group endorsed a city tuberculosis X ray survey with Esther Wilson chairing.

South End P T A Elects Officers at Annual Meeting
Mrs Charles Marble was chosen president of the South End P T A at Tuesday evening’s annual election. Other officers include Miss Eleanor Ferguson as vice president and Mrs Vance Wakefield as secretary. The board of trustees features Mrs Donald McRae and others. The group plans joint work on a June tuberculosis survey and supports a May 20 Pinocchio presentation at the high school. A May 11 banquet honors basketball teams. Delegates head to the Augusta State Convention. They awarded banners to local classes and funded a Weeks Street projector. A movie on aluminum capped the social hour.

Bath proposes parking ban to improve Center Street crossing safety
After a Tuesday meeting with City Manager Ralph Mittendorf City Council Chair Rodney Ross Jr Maine Central Railroad and Public Utilities Commission officials a recommendation was made to prohibit parking on both sides of Center Street near the crossing to improve visibility for signals. Railroad and PUC representatives argued current controls are effective and require gate watchman support though parking near the tracks obscures views. Mittendorf will push the council to study the measure while the area near the North Center Street driveway and filling station would handle displaced parking.

A. M. Main and other Bath Y M C A leaders attended the 57th annual state convention at Bates College. Reports highlighted postwar growth, new Y buildings in Waterville and Sanford, rural Y work without buildings, and plans for a full time state Hi Y secretary. Brotherhood files grievance against Bath Iron Works
Four members and former officers of the Independent Brotherhood of Shipyard Workers filed an unfair labor grievance with Bath Iron Works Corp. over recognizing Paul M. Hovey as business agent. They contend Hovey is ineligible, as regional director of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and allied groups, and that BIW’s action interferes with the Taft Hartley Act protections.

Bath Iron Works Buys Dixie Machinery in Stock Purchase
Bath Iron Works Corp through its Pennsylvania Crusher Co purchased all outstanding stock of Dixie Machinery Manufacturing Co of St. Louis. J William Schulze of Bath announced the deal. Dixie, founded in 1918, makes hammermills for cement mills and other industries. Elmer W. Noxon remains with the business as acting manager of the Machinery Manufacturing Co. no immediate plant changes planned.

Bath Savings Institution Declares Semiannual Dividend
The Bath Savings Institution trustees vote a dividend rate of one and one quarter percent for six months from December 1, 1949 to June 1, 1950, payable June 1, 1950. The payout exceeds $100,000 to 8,200 depositors. The institution, founded in 1852, now has resources over $9,800,000.

Reid to donate 356 more acres for Georgetown park
Walter E. Reid of Georgetown prepares deeds for a second 356 acre tract adjoining his 350 acre first gift to Maine for a State park. After approval by the Attorney General, the land will be presented to the State Park Commission and Governor for acceptance. The Park and Highway Commissions proceed with development including road access to Mile Beach and parking plans, while a ridge view from the new land promises camping and recreation potential.
