Hyser plan to foil car thieves via branded parts
H W Hyser of Grand Rapids proposes universal permits issued by the secretary of state for branding car parts with distinctive marks. Marks would be embedded so they cannot be removed without mutilating the part, making defaced markings a crime. Permit becomes proof of ownership and transferable with the vehicle, forming a chain of title. The idea, suggested by B F Goodrich, aims to deter thieves and urges auto clubs to consider adoption.
