After the election many lawmakers resist a full repeal of Taft Hartley and return to Wagner Act norms. Tickets for the Governor's Ball in Augusta on April 21 arrived in Bath from Trueworthy of The Bath Daily Timex. Only 25 were allotted to Bath due to Augusta City hall capacity. Reservations must be made by April 15. unsold tickets return to the committee. Each ticket admits two. a public reception with orchestra is planned at the State House in Augusta on the afternoon of the event.
Police say a eight truck driven by Lewis King age 44 of 186 North Street collided with a sedan operated by Miss Agnes S. Prout of Bangor at Winter and Middle streets Friday. King was taken to Memorial hospital for observation after X rays and possible fractured ribs. Passengers Henry Vaillancourt and Alton Richards, both of Bath, were unharmed.
W. S. Newell Handtub association basketball team will face Brooke-Chevroet Friday night? at Morse High School gymnasium. Proceeds will fund basketball uniforms for the Handtub boys.

Miss Eleanor Webster led a flower arrangement demo. a nominating committee reported a slate for officers. the meeting closed with a tea and flowers distributed to members.
Eight year old Joseph Norton son of Mrs. Isabelle Norton of Dummer street court was injured Friday afternoon after tumbling over a 12 foot embankment while playing Tarzan with two other boys. He was rushed to Memorial hospital where an emergency skull operation was performed. By Saturday morning Dr. Jacob Smith reported slight improvement as he regained consciousness.
Dorothy Jane Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thorpeun Jr., 648 Washingall Street, hosted a birthday party for friends last week to mark her 12th birthday. Attendees included Marlene Bryant, Mary Grace Talbot, Kateri Costain, Janet Day, Sheila Garland, Patricia Keene, Janet Cohen, Barbara King, Sylvia Bryant, Ann Cohen, Catherine Wallace, Helen Le Mont, Agnes Cressey and Priscilla Lewis.
The Philadelphia Story will be presented by local amateur talent on April 4 at Morse high school auditorium. Bath Community Orchestra performs at 7 30 with curtain at 8 15. Tickets are sold through Jewelry Store and by all Thespians and Lions. All seats are reserved and must be exchanged at Hallet's for a seat. Exchanges available daily 3 to 5 and 7 to 8 p.m.
Sagadahoc county delegation recommended trimming 1575 from the County Commissioners budget and amending the bill to reduce the proposed increase from 48 529 to 46 954. Bath would save nearly 1 000 in local taxes as five eighths of the county levy. Meeting in Augusta with Senator Larrabee and Reps Larrabee McClure Jones and Wile held to discuss the cut.
Morse High band of 26 under Keith Crockett gave a half hour concert at the Sedgwick Lions meeting. New member Sydney Dudley was inducted. David Kramer reported on a Sea Scout ship fund affair. Les Shumway updated on The Philadelphia Story play sponsored by Lions for underprivileged child fund. Tickets for the Bath Thespians production are for reserved seats at Hallet's next week. Fourteen guests from Biddeford Saco and Kennebunk Lions attended.
The 49ers Fair Committee hosted parents and friends at Lambert Park Community Center for a covered dish supper and party. About 60 attended with community singing, skit No Trains Today and Little Old Lady, and performances by Mark Jackson Emerton Gross Bernard Knight Harold Cutting. An Easter parade of fashions plus games stunts and a Scotch auction completed the enjoyable evening.
A food sale sponsored by the South End P T A is set for April 1 at 2 p.m. at Shepard's shoe store. Mrs. Roland Breton, president, announced the sale with a committee including Mrs. Dwinal Cornish as chair and members Mrs. Albert Douglas, Mrs. Howard Eliot, Mrs. Oliver Foster, Mrs. Georgia Masters, Mrs. Ernest Brown, Mrs. Harvey Ricker, Mrs. Ronald Bean, Mrs. Alfred Frye, and Mrs. Lannes Fuller.
Mrs. Henry G. Shaw of 24 Oak Street reports crocuses in her fireplace chimney for three or four days. She notes the warm March weather confirming that spring has arrived.
Mrs James Jordan of 56 Pine Street returns to her job on Monday after five weeks confined to home due to illness.
The Bath Community Orchestra will give its first public appearance on April 5 as part of a Lions Club event. The group, formed in 1947 and led by Kenneth Weeks, will perform a 45 minute concert before the play The Philadelphia Story and provide music between acts, aiming to share fine music with Bath residents without pursuing professional earnings.
David Hodgdon a Morse High junior built a feather remover for the L P Hodgdon poultry farm on Birch Point road Wiscasset. In five months he worked four hours weekly with instructor David Alkazin supervising. The 54 inch high cabinet uses a half horsepower motor and hose spikes to defeather chickens at a rapid rate.
Mrs John Webber of Woolwich was honored with a stork shower at the home of Mrs Loring Edgerly on a recent Wednesday afternoon. Arlene Grover and Charlotte Leeman aided the hostess as guests admired umbrella and rubber doll decorations. Presents were placed in a bassinet and the gathering continued with social visiting.

Mrs Viola Melzard a longtime Pythian Sisters member received a 25 year service pin for Gertrude Stewart during a Lowell Temple meeting. Obligation night featured candles and flowers. afternoon apron making for the Easter sale preceded a six o clock supper and guest entertainment. A Portland April 1 2 trip planner and election of representatives from Acadia lodge outlined a Ways and Means committee. Aprons will again be made next Wednesday with a six o clock supper for members.

James B. Hall of Summer street returns home from Lynn Massachusetts where he was reunited with his brother Robert W. Hall who has been overseas for several years.
Miss Thelma W Dearing of 24 Pratt Street has recovered from two weeks of illness and is able to resume her piano instruction classes.
William P. Ledyard born in Groton circa 1774 moved to Bath after 1800. His 1812 death left real estate that, in 1851, split among heirs including Mrs. Harriot Crommett, yielding the Desmond store. The building, likely pre dating 1812, passed to James Crommett Ledyard and later John J. Desmond who opened a clothing business in it about 40 years ago. James Crommett Ledyard later took the surname Ledyard.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Baer Connard of High Street and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dale True of Front Street leave this week to attend the Mid Century Conclave at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They anticipate Saturday’s inauguration of James R. Killian as MIT's new president. Killian, a former student and the first MIT graduate to rise to the presidency, is noted in the week’s events.
