Sagadahoc county delegation at the Republican State convention caucus chose Ellis L. Aldrich of Topsham over long‑time member Arthur K. Purington of Bath by 22 to 16. Mrs. Georgia Wakefield’s vacancy was filled by Mrs. Arthur Sewall of Bath. A county committee was formed with Harold P. Small and Florence E. Wallace in Bath and other members named from Arrowsic Bowdoin, Bowdoinham Georgetown Phippsburg Richmond and surrounding areas.
Sagadahoc delegates at the Republican state convention in Portland supported the majority prohibition plank by a 28 to 3 vote from a 31 member Sagadahoc bloc. A minority report advocating repeal and regulatory liquor sales was defeated 540 to 260.
Nat Palmer recalls the William B Palmer schooner voyage to New York and South America. He describes loading lumber for Marranham and Buenos Aires, a shallow stretch near Rosario, and a rafted deck load onward to Port of Spain. The tale includes a dramatic encounter with a school of whales and dolphin fishing lore.
Morse high and Bath high schools award three honor parts to six seniors after tying scores. John Huse and Edward Owen named co valedictorians both with 97 ranks. Barbara Brown and Louise Briggs named co salutatorians. Helen Minott and Ellen Hodgkins named co honor essayists with ranks 91 92.
At Morse High School the Manual Training Department led by David Y. Alkazin demonstrates student tool use and growing skill. Students will salvage material from the Old Erudition schoolhouse being razed to craft souvenirs of Bath's first public building.
Mr and Mrs William Fields of Hardings marked their golden wedding anniversary with a family reunion attended by all their children. Greetings arrived from England Canada and several US states. Son William Fields Jr from Los Angeles joined guests for a turkey dinner at Sunnyside Farm hosted by daughter Mrs Harold Freeman and family.
A Packard coupe with New Jersey plates rolled onto its side in a ditch on a Woolwich highway near the Dike. Operated by Mr. Swift with two passengers, it struck a field stump and turned over but Swift and others escaped with only minor shocks as the car was moved from the ditch.
Carl M. Day of Brunswick appointed treasurer of the Topsham Fair for the unexpired term of the late Isaiah R. Morrill. The vacancy was filled Monday by the executive committee. Miss Emma Colby, a Nassan Institute student, visiting relatives in the city this week.
L Eugene Thebeau of Bath attracted support at the Democratic state convention in Bangor as a possible gubernatorial candidate if Gov Brann does not seek renomination. Thebeau is a Bath Iron Works official, hospital president, and Bath Trust Co secretary.
