Wesley H. Lemont, Morse high school sophomore, spoke on patriotism at a Friday gathering in the G. A. R. hall, Middle Street, hosted by the Auxiliary to the T. W. Hyde camp Sons of Union Veterans. The program opened with the Star Spangled Banner and prayers, followed by musical numbers. Lemont urged lifelong loyalty and civic duty, citing Nathan Hale and other figures, and urged parents and teachers to foster patriotism in children. Ice cream, cake, and dancing closed the evening with a May Day notice announced for May 1.
A three cent denomination stamp commemorating George Washington’s proclamation ending the Revolutionary War will be issued April 19.
