Second Lieutenant Francis E. MacDonald, with Mrs. MacDonald and their daughter, departed for El Paso Texas to attend a four month basic officers course at Fort Bliss Anti Aircraft Artillery School. He joined the Gun Battalion in 1948 and rose to master sergeant before being commissioned. The family resided at 77 Bluff Road while MacDonald worked in the Bath Iron Works tin shop since April 1952.
Mr and Mrs Milton Hathorne of Woolwich announce their daughter Freda Elizabeths engagement to Carroll Freeman Jones son of Mr and Mrs Horace Jones of Wiscasset Miss Hathorne is in Morse High schools senior class Jones is Morse Highs 1951 graduate employed at Bath Iron Works No wedding date set.
Five year old Diana Meister of Pister on High street spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Gilbert Snow and family in Portland. Mr Snow is radio host known as Uncle Hezzie on the Trading Post program.
The Sophomore class presented a week in a Cumrings featuring Dorothy Thompson Anne Pase Jerry Doyle and Thaxter singing numbers The program included a jazz band Three Blows a Hammer and a Beat with Robert Haggett Thaxter Owen Wayne Fuller and Richard Carter. After the assembly Bill Fogg accepted silver footballs from the Student Council for Coach Frink and his lettermen. The Senior class play Life is set for March 27 with a cast listed including Miss Shea Gretchen Donald Bill Ivan Pouliot Miss Eggleston Audrey LaVasseur and others.
Dromore Grange met Sout evening with guests from Sagadahoc counties for a St Patrick Day program. A covered dish supper featured Irish dishes and a musical program with Mrs Perkins at the piano and solos by Helen iany and others as Rev. Charles L Stevens led readings.
Frank King, retiring foreman at Bath Iron Works, was honored by BIW members and guests. President Arthur MacDonald presented a clock barometer and a copper knocker souvenir as tributes to his decades of shipyard craft. Archibald Main recalled King’s early days in Groton and praise for his skill, leadership, and hobbies as a hunter and bowler.
Mrs. Clarence W. Moore was guest of honor at a stork shower hosted by her sister-in-law Mrs. Laurier Daigle at 795 Middle Street. Guests enjoyed a social evening and refreshments, receiving numerous gifts. Two Bath men appeared in Municipal Court Monday morning. James Lyons of Bath pleaded guilty to drunken intoxication and operating with no license. He was previously convicted in April for driving under the influence and license violation, fined $100 and $20 with three months probation. Failure to pay fines could lead to 60 days in jail for the major offense and 30 days for the license violation.

A milk truck on Bath Street hill in Oakhurst rolled away on its own and accelerated toward an embankment near morning rush hour. The uncrewed vehicle reportedly veered onto the street and then tipped toward a nearby embankment, prompting authorities to respond.
