Fatal self destruction ends Bath farmer life
James Rook a 73 year old North Bath farmer who had twice been committed for insanity shot himself Monday at his home after a family struggle over a hidden gun. He had threatened self harm recently and had a history with local officials over mental health. He left one son and four daughters and several grandchildren.

Heald Found Guilty In Popham Steamer Whiskey Case
Deputy Sheriff I H Purington found a box consigned to William H Heald of Center aboard the Popham steamer Eldorado and seized several sealed bottles of whiskey and rum. Heald faced a search and seizure charge, pleaded not guilty, and was fined 100 dollars with costs. 60 days in Auburn jail if unpaid.
