Hyde Heirs Gift Elmhurst to Pine Tree Society
The Hyde family deeded Elmhurst mansion to the Pine Tree Society for Crippled Children, continuing John S. Hyde's legacy of Bath philanthropy. The clubby estate near Sunset Rock becomes a center for disabled Maine children's care, education, and mobility aids. The society, founded in 1936, expands services to transport, school access, braces, and eventual independence for crippled youths.
