Georgetown Estate Sale Preserves Historic Adams Farm and Lumber Holdings
The Varney lumber interests bought the F. K. Trowbridge estate of 400 acres on the New Meadows River near East Brunswick, with 350 acres of timber and 50 to 60 acres at Howard's Point for water shipment. The old Adams farm homestead and Kellogg Trowbridge cottage are preserved with 16 and 16 rooms respectively, plus a large barn and caretaker houses. The property, long a Bath and Brunswick landmark, hosted large private and public gatherings known as Adams's and Jake's, and may be kept under the same agency to benefit the community after lumber operations. The report notes ongoing care to protect shore fringe, young pine groves, gardens, and foliage.
