Bath High School Alumni Hold Forty Third Banquet
The Bath High School Alumni Association held its 43rd banquet at Morse High School gym. President Blair C. Wilson and officers were reelected, about 500 attended, and the class of 1934 was welcomed by Class President John E. L. Huse. Special guests included Morse staff, trustees, and alumni from 1884 to 1934, with gifts and a program featuring the class ode and a club orchestra.

Despite heavy rainfall the Dromore Grange observed its 45th anniversary at the hall Tuesday evening last week. Members and guests filled the hall as Bessie Dickinson opened the program with songs, history, skits, and reminiscences recounting past masters and Grange activities, including a mock trial and a scrapbook project.

Launching date set for destroyer Dewey at Bath Iron Works
Bath Iron Works officials named July 28 at 3 15 p m as the provisional launch time for the destroyer Dewey. Miss Anna Metcalf Dewey, a grandniece of Admiral George Dewey, will christen the vessel. Her family connections include Vermont figures James French Dewey and Emily Strong Dewey, with schooling in Massachusetts and New York. Louise Dewey of Chicago was named sponsor by Navy Secretary Swanson. At the time, April had been considered for the launch and Miss Dewey planned a May 23 marriage, now on honeymoon in Europe.

Johnson House Gutted by Fire at Blind Crossing
Albion H. Johnson of the Diamond Spring Ice Co. saw his two story home at Blind Crossing gutted by fire struck by lightning Thursday noon. Mrs. Johnson, alone at home, was rendered unconscious in the kitchen but escaped after revival. Fire engines from Mill pond aided, no insurance on the property.

Elbert M. Bates 67, a Richmond painter and ex-towboat captain, pled nolo contendre to manslaughter in the death of Valheca Dolan and to performing an abortion on C eurs Davis. Sentences run concurrently: three to six years for manslaughter and one to two years for abortion, with Williams to Thomaston prison. Ralph Davis, 28, received a suspended one to two year sentence and two years probation. The court noted Bates's age and health, and his cooperation with authorities.
