The Bath Iron Works announces pay for employees will switch to Saturday from Friday. Merchants and offices anticipate busier Saturdays with longer lines and need for extra staff. The change, amid Summer trade, aims to keep production high as shipbuilding supports the war effort.
Invitations for officers were received at the Genesta chapter No. 73 O E S meeting in the Masonic temple. The group will vacation in July and August and hear plans for a District No. 4 school of instruction with Pioneer chapter No. 11 Lisbon Falls hosting July 29 at 10 am.
Miss Barbara Cooke 10 year old daughter of John F. Cooke Hyde Windlass Co official helped launch submarine chaser PC657 at Snow's Shipyard Rockland. She broke champagne on the bow as it began its run attended by Commander Lewis A. Corman Lieut James Burke and local Bath residents. The Lawrences moved into their new High street home from Alex Burden.
Officers of the Rotary Anns were elected at a dessert meeting Thursday afternoon at 1006 High street. Mrs Rupert M. Irvine was chosen president and Mrs Charles T. Small Jr. vice president with Mrs Charles B. Doyle secretary and Mrs William Higgins treasurer.
Mr and Mrs Frank Sylvester returned to their Kit tery home Sunday after visiting Mrs Sylvesters parents Mr and Mrs Frank Lemont on Washington Street. Mr and Mrs Robert Bragg of New York City are guests of Mr and Mrs Ralph Bragg of North Street.
National Commander Lynn U Stambaugh asks all Post Commanders to enroll 15 000 candidates for civilian pilot training. Washington information goes to Maine posts as Acting Administrator C I Stanton requests efforts to enroll by July 1. Maine Department Commander Cecil J Siddall urges Legionnaires statewide to assist in this important program.
The Bath Chapter of the American Red Cross graduates its second class of Volunteer Nurses Aides after an 80 hour course and cap ceremony at Bath Memorial Hospital. Recipients include Mrs G Con verse Fenn Mrs H Warren Halterman and Mrs James Knight.
The Superior Court adjourned yesterday after a lengthy session with two criminal cases disposed of and several civil matters including divorces. Last June’s term featured crowded rooms, hot weather, and special admission cards, a contrast to this year’s orderly proceedings.
