In a War Production Board speech Donald M. Nelson argues the war will yield a new world with abundant goods for all. After victory, industrial miracles and civilian use of new facilities promise a true land of plenty, while Bath’s playground drive struggles amid rising costs and competing appeals.
Trains and buses run full as thousands head to Maine for vacation. Extra services begin, and travelers are urged to make reservations far in advance to avoid disappointment.
It will seem natural to some of the older citizens of Richmond to see a revival of ship building in that town which has launched many wooden vessels in the past. Contracts for the construction of a number of wooden barges have been awarded residents of that town and work on them will begin in the near future.

Mrs Arthur Sewall wife of the executive assistant to the president of Todd-Bath Iron Shipbuilding Corp. sponsored the Ocean Pilgrim ship launch at South Portland. The ceremony began at 10 30 with Mrs Sewall in a gray dress and purple accessories and a bouquet of pink roses. Guests included the Sewall daughters Nancy Cynthia and Sally Lane and their son Harold M Sewall.
Donald Bowles of Brunswick has returned to work as a copper smith at Bath Iron Works Corp. after a chronic ear infection kept him from passing military physicals. He had previously failed Navy entry for the same reason.
Central Congregational church begins its first vacation school with 67 pupils and a 16 member faculty. Opened Monday last week the program runs until July 2 with graduations and a lawn party. Rev. Raymond G. Putnam leads the school and is assisted by Mrs Putnam and others in charge of departments and activities.
A miscellaneous shower honored Miss Bernice Hunt RN on the occasion of her upcoming marriage to Stanley Brown of Bath. Mrs Albert H McMann RN hosted at her Washington street home with pink and white decor and an umbrella of gifts. Moving pictures and refreshments followed by RN guests including Jean Atwater and many registered nurses.
Firefighters from Bath used a forest fire pump and 400 feet of hose to reach the Grover Cleveland Smith residence on West Bath road Saturday afternoon, saving the home while a nearby barn burned. Fire Chief Richard J. Frates led Engine Four crew including Forrest Maines Roland Staples and Merton Snipe, with aid from a Bath-built boat captain who spotted the fire from his cottage on the New Meadows.

Miss Marianne Theresa Wagner daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert E Wagner and Ralph Amos Mawyer U S N of Wingina Virginia were married Thursday at noon in Dr David L Wilson home 918 Washington street The Rev Wilson pastor emeritus Central Congregational church officiated the double ring ceremony Attending were Robert E Wagner Jr Arline Arsenault and the brides parents The couple’s families witnessed the event
Carroll K. Pierce of Portland named nine men to his Cumberland and Sagadahoc regional committee for the Maine Victory Fund. The group includes Bertram D. Scott Bridgton William L. Skelton Bath Fred B. Nelson Philip I. Milliken Frederick H. Turnbull Virgil C. McGorrill Thurlow A. Bartlett all of Portland and Samuel L. Forsaith of Brunswick. They will organize city and town committees to advance the Victory Fund campaign aimed at increasing government bond purchases by large investors.
Mr and Mrs Edward L Gaudreau Jr and their son Edward L III arrived Saturday to spend the weekend with Mr and Mrs Edward L Gaudreau Sr on Upper Washington Street in Dover New Hampshire.
The King's Point Summer home hosted the Free Will Workers and Sterling Bible class outing from Corliss Street church on a Wednesday last week. The trip by bus featured outdoor fireplace making, roasting wieners and marshmallows, berry swimming, and woodland strolls. Guests included May Besaw, Lloyd Coombs Jr., Pearl Taylor, and Melvina King among others while Mrs. Harold S. Walker presided.

Alfred E Senter president of Brunswick Chamber of Commerce announces a new bus link between Brunswick and Bailey Island and Brunswick and Harpswell started July 1 sponsored by the chamber with two 34 passenger buses. Albert A Quelette heads the service for Brunswick Transportation Co. Miss Ethel Blake RN who cared for the late Martha Hooper has returned home visiting her parents. Velma Blake sister and teacher in New Bedford Mass arrived to spend vacation with her parents.
Joseph B Eastman of the Office of Defense Transportation said travel to and from fairs is non essential and fairs should be postponed during the war to conserve rubber. He noted farmers must stretch rubbered vehicles for up to three years and any attendance at fairs is not necessary though not intolerable.

The Colonial Cafe reopened Saturday after a two month closure from a fire that gutted the kitchen and caused smoke and water damage to the dining room. The newly renovated restaurant was at full capacity by noon and patrons praised the updated appearance.

Mrs. Ambrose Curran and her daughter Beverly of Blind Crossing are staying with Mr. Curran at Independence Point Buzzards Bay Massachusetts. Curran a Coast Guard chief machinist mate has recovered from a lengthy illness and was hospitalized for months.
