Maine Attorney General Rules On Savings Bank Deposit Limits
Attorney General Pattangall holds that once a person deposits two thousand dollars in a savings bank they exhaust the right to reserve any interest for themselves in that deposit. He cites Section 19 Chapter 48 of the Revised Statutes and says a man with a 2000 deposit and an account payable to either or survivor has a direct and indirect interest in the funds. The bank may not accept a second deposit under these terms.
