Bath's Oldest Insurance Firm Opens New Front Street Offices
James B. Drake & Sons Bath's oldest insurance agency opens new offices at 2 Front Street Monday marking the third relocation in its 90 year history. The agency represents 12 fire and three casualty firms including Insurance Company of North America since 1868 and merged Bath firm D M Humphreys in 1949. Frederick E Drake Jr leads the business. he joined in 1939 after a career in shipping and Navy service.

Morse High class of 1934 holds 20th reunion Thursday
The Morse High School class of 1934 observes its 20th reunion on Alumni Day. Festivities begin with a five o'clock social hour at Mr. and Mrs. Rodney E. Ross Jr. home, 1024 Washington Street. At 6:10 p.m. the group meets in Room 108 at the high school for the annual banquet, then proceeds to Bath Country Club for the remainder of the evening.

Archibald M. Main was elected chairman of the Board of Directors of Bath Iron Works Corporation at a June 7, 1954 meeting, succeeding the late William S. Newell. A Scottish born naval architect, Main had a long career with Bath Iron Works and served as executive vice president at retirement.

A launching program in New England marked the debut of the U S S Cromwell, a destroyer escort named for a submarine legend. The ceremony drew Rear Admiral Charles B. Momsen and Congressman Robert Hale, with Cmdr George E. Brown among survivors from the Sculpin. The ship measures 314 feet, displaces 1850 tons, and will carry nine officers and 140 enlisted men.
