Maine Central Railroad denied Bath crossing safety change
The Public Utilities Commission rejected the Maine Central Railroad petition to replace gate protections at Bath Water Washington and School streets with automatic light signals. The decision, reflecting Bath city opposition voiced at hearings on Dec 16 1936 and Feb 19 1937, notes traffic near Bath Iron Works and many pedestrians as key factors. The ruling preserves manual gate operation during active hours and automatic signaling otherwise.
