Poking Fun At Victorian Habits Across Generations
The author contrasts modern satire of Victorian era items with a nostalgic look at past comforts. Wax flowers, conch shells, and mustache cups give way to safety razors and ash trays, while children walked to school, studied old primers, and drank from tin dippers. The piece reflects on self reliance, era contrasts, and a speculative jab at future nostalgia.

About 2,000 workers face unemployment, six to seven million dollars spent may be wasted, and the project could end as a political relic. Trolley service resumed after a strike settlement, with riders hoping for steady operation. May toll shows 21 highway deaths in Maine, year to June 1 trails last year by four fewer fatalities despite safety campaigns.
