Bath hosts its first social event at the new country club a Wednesday last week to raise funds for dining and living room furnishings. The New England farmhouse style club offers a nearly finished golf course and clubhouse with mahogany and chintz decor. Thirty two card tables hosted contract and auction with prizes for top scorers and a late tea draw of visitors from New England and beyond, totaling $400 raised.

Traffic Over Bridge Shows Extremely Heavy Weekend
Automobile traffic over the bridge was extremely heavy as 664 more cash paying cars crossed on Sunday than the prior year. Saturday and Sunday receipts rose $509.95 versus 1930. Double Drowning of Bath People at Popham Beach
Bath residents Paul G. Honstvet and his eight year old son Paul Jr perished at Popham Beach after leaping into the Kennebec River to save the boy from a sudden deep-water hole. Doris Spinney, a 15 year old, tried to rescue the father but was dragged toward deeper water. coast guards and local helpers searched the river. Honstvet, a World War I veteran, had just returned from Hinckley and worked with Kesley-Matson Co. in Bath. he is survived by his wife Florence Hamlin and his mother and siblings.

Yacht Aras Calls at Bath in Quiet Sunday Visit
Yacht Aras built by Bath Iron Works for Hugh Chisholm of Portland and New York visited Bath Sunday. The black yacht, among the largest afloat, docked briefly then sailed after a few hours aboard Mr Chisholm on the visit. Chester D Colby is chief engineer of the Aras. Miss Irma Groves is ill at Court Street home.

Planes to Guard Poplars From New Pests Near Jackman
Airplanes will dust woods around Skinner and Jackman with poison to combat poplar leaf rollers that have defoliated 40 000 acres. In Kokadjo 3 000 acres suffer and 60 000 acres in the region are at risk as the moths emerge from leaf litter each spring. Dr H B Peirson notes the pest is new to Maine and outlines its life cycle and the importance of poplar trees for pulp and other uses.

J P Morgan arrived in Southampton aboard the Corsair after a seven day seven hour transatlantic crossing from New York, a record for her class. Captain Porter reported average speeds of 16.2 knots from New York to the Needles, noting the voyage was shorter than a prior crossing. Morgan will vacation at Watford then Scotland for grouse shooting, and declined to discuss European finances.

Bath Country Club Nears Completion Attracts Visitors
Frank M Churchill of Kerr & Houston will finish work on the Bath Country Club clubhouse within a day or two. Grass seed covers tees and fairways, with the first tee and a fine putting green completed. The club’s Walter system sprinkles greens and a spring supplies ample water. Visitors come daily, optimistic about the layout, though no play until fall or later. A new hot air furnace was installed in the clubhouse. John Newell returned from the White Mountains after climbing Mount Washington with Fletcher Chamberlain and Henry Rowland. Mr Newell and Mrs Harry Hetzler then headed to New York City after a stay at Small Pot Beach with Mr and Mrs Arthur Sewall Jr.
