Overlook Camp Girls Weather Upper Maine River Trip
Last week at Camp Overlook the thermometer spiked to a record high for the season. In July 1911 a reading of 86 was noted one day, but Wednesday reached 82 briefly after dinner. The girls swam each evening, then Thursday sailed from Woolwich to Augusta. They dined at Augusta House where Kiwanis members invited them to sing in the other dining room. The group sang and cheered for Kiwanis and Overlook, then Mrs. Bowen invited the club to visit the camp. The boat ride home hit an eddy near Woolwich, caused minor damage and a leak. A dark thunderstorm then struck with heavy rain and gale winds, but the girls remained brave and sang on.
