Theodore W Sherman Jr of Wiscasset was found guilty of speeding 85 mph in a 25 mph zone in Bath Municipal Court. Menhaden or pogies have returned to Maine waters in large numbers after years away. In Winneganee bay near Brigham's cove and up to Sabine, five boats hauled in catches with the Pluck from Reedville, Virginia taking vast tonnages for oil extraction and fish meal. The Pluck, a converted Navy minesweeper, operates for Deep Sea Products in Portland with a crew of 27, mostly Black, and visitors report lively fishing and local banter as nets are hauled in.

Contract Signed for Addition to the Huse School
The addition to Huse Memorial School got underway after a contract signing at City Hall. Consolidated Contractors Inc of Portland will build six standard classrooms two small classrooms and a storage area at a cost around 498 000 exclusive of equipment and furnishings. Superintendent R A Patterson of Vassalboro will oversee the project with expected local labor. Completion is anticipated in about five months.
