New Division Unites Aid To Fish And Wildlife
June 30 marked the end of the Biological Survey as a separate bureau in Washington. A new division named Fish and Wildlife Service will merge the survey with the fisheries office under Dr. Ira N. Gabrielson, continuing work to study birds and other wildlife, migration routes, food habits, and conservation. The effort aims to expand knowledge and protect species amid declining waterfowl numbers from 129,099,999 in 1909 to about 69,0509 by census, reflecting improved safeguards and broader ecological focus.
