West Bath records a weekend wedding at the Wing cottage with Hazel Wing marrying George J. Hopkins of Wilmington Delaware as Lieut. Paul Wing served as best man. Robert H. McMillan a paymaster at The Texas Steamship Co. and Florence M. Thomas of Rockland wed Saturday afternoon at their new home on York Street. Rev. C. Raymond Chappell officiated. both sets of parents attended. Honeymoon to last about ten days. Also notes a camouflaged ship along the coast and a tame muskrat near Morse mill. Mrs. George Roderick buys Alec Humphrey place on Western avenue for a home.
Maine lawmakers receive letters from over half the legislature urging a special session to enact a law requiring able bodied men aged 18 to 50 to work in useful public roles. Chairman Harold M all of Bath notes neighboring states have issued proclamations and urges swift action at personal cost as a patriotic duty.
Dummy Burns the deaf and dumb fighter has a letter from Eddie Flynn of Peabody Mass expressing a wish to meet Burns again for a $100 purse. Flynn was beaten by Burns in this city months ago and hopes for a rematch before Burns heads West to meet other boxing stars. Burns has won friends in Bath where he works in a box factory and is noted as a disciplined fighter and man who avoids smoking and drinking.
Mrs Frances MacFadden presided and Mrs Gertrude Hayes led devotional exercises at the Bath meeting held in the Pirot Baptist vestry Tuesday afternoon. Members sewed for Belgian orphans and discussed war relief including a field kitchen at the front serving hot coffee and soups. A petition for $25 electric fans for base hospitals was urged. A postal card shower will honor Hose 2 driver Charles Norton in hospital and President Mrs Lelia Knight. New members include Mrs Mary J Baker Mrs Agnes Perry and Mrs Callie Young. An interstate W C T U convention is planned for Old Orchard July 19 20 and 21 with several Bath members intending to attend.
The Central Maine and Light and Power Co will have a new water gas plant ready around October 1, making Bath’s gas service among the best in New England. The old coal plant will be upgraded for emergencies, reflecting the company’s progress in the city.
Frank P Headley, longtime associate of the Hotel Travel and Resort Bureau and a familiar figure in Bath and many coast cities, has been appointed routing manager for the U S Army ordnance department with headquarters in Washington. Fewer western travelers will visit eastern summer resorts this year due to higher railway rates, increasing travel costs.

He urges immediate physician or Health Office notification for new or suspicious illnesses to protect families and the community. Ice cream cones become scarce with prices rising from 28 to 50 cents per 100 and possibly 65 cents as sugar shortages affect cone production.
