Georgetown Youth to Tour Europe With 27 Students

Robert Savage a 17 year old from Indian Point Georgetown will depart Bath July 7 with a group of 27 American high school students for a six week European tour of eight countries. The trip sponsored by the National Student Council association and the national association of school principals hinges on a National Honor Society member who is active in Morse High activities. The delegation sails from New York July 9 and visits England Switzerland the Netherlands France Austria Italy and Germany returning August 20. Local support comes from Maine Teachers association Bath Rotary club Bath Lodge of Elks Bath Lions club and others including the Davenport Memorial Fund Bath Area Chamber of Commerce which recently gave Savage a camera for the trip.

Morse High coach Henry Small resigns after 34 years in education

Henry D. Small or Hank Small longtime Morse High School teacher coach resigns after 34 years in education submitting the notice to Superintendent Loring Addison. He leaves Morse after 25 years on the faculty planning a move to South Paris with his wife and a new home under construction.

Mystery blast near Bath sparks Coast Survey questionnaire

The Coast and Geodetic Survey sent a questionnaire about the June 19 blast reported across Bath and Brunswick with Brunswick hearing a loud explosion. The Naval Air Station Brunswick found no nearby jet activity, while Syracuse reported a B 58 Hustler sonic boom two weeks earlier. The Times notes the survey asks about time and location of the felt event.

Cmdr Henderson Transferred To Pacific Coast

Cmdr James L. Henderson U S N senior assistant to the Supervisor of Shipbuilding and Naval Inspector Ordnance Bath was detached from the local office on Wednesday and assigned to the Navy Board of Inspection Pacific Coast Section. He and Mrs Henderson and their three sons will drive to San Diego after visiting Lexington Ky en route.

Barge and Tugboat Damaged by Rocks in the Kennebec

The tug Mary Dee returning to Boston after hull damage from rocks on the Kennebec collided with the river rock ledges near Bath. The barge Blanche Sheridan suffered a large hull hole while unloading 1,400 tons of coal at South Gardiner. Officials weigh scrapping or dry docking repairs as Pocahontas Coal Co. assesses insurance.

New Administrator Of Hyde Hospital Takes Up Residence Here

William H. Schofield III has moved to 929 Middle Street with his family to lead Hyde Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital. He comes from West Orange New Jersey where he served as assistant administrator at the Kessler Institute. Schofield has degrees from Drew University Washington Square College NYU and a 1957 MA from Toronto. He formerly directed health education and programs in Oswego County New York and held leadership roles in multiple health associations. He is married to Nancy Foster and they have four children.

Gilman to Retire as Union 48 Superintendent

Construction Of Hospital Wing To Start Soon

Bath plans a 64 bed wing at Memorial hospital with Con solidated Constructors Inc of Portland to build the new wing and renovate the main building. The project totals 621 609 with extra funds for generator elevator and renovations, while a 170 000 shortfall awaits federal aid and private sources. Groundbreakings expected soon.

Area C of C Hosts Annual Lobster Bake With Military Chiefs

More than 100 attendees join Bath Area Chamber of Commerce military liaison committee for the second annual lobster bake at Hermit Island Thursday. Attendees include NAS Brunswick officers and wives, SAGE Tops ham personnel, and Bath area officials led by City Council Chair John F. Leonard and leaders from Bath and surrounding towns. The event aims to strengthen ties between Bath communities and nearby military installations as prominent guests mingle with civic leaders and Navy and Air Force representatives.

Elks Band To Give Concert July 3

The Chapin house on Montsweag road Woolwich will open July 14 for Bath area historic homes tour sponsored by Bath Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Built about 1800 the Mae-influenced dwelling features a water side move, two wings, a stone terrace and a long barn now partly living quarters with water views.
