Adjutant General James W. Hanson announced the newly formed Battery H of the 240th Coast Artillery at Bath passed national defense inspection. The unit of three officers and 52 men was reviewed by Lieut. Col. Moriarty and Major Warner, and Battery Tr. at Bath will replace Battery Hoo at Vinalhaven. Captain J Warare McClure will command, with a drill set for 7 30 this evening at the armory.
Mrs Davis Hateh Mrs Earl Twitchell and daughters Nancy Betsy with Dunlap Hatel travel Saturday to Pop ham Beach. Mrs Hatch and Mrs Twitchell stay at Dunnell cottage through early August while Mr Hateh will spend the weekend there.
About 100 Knights Templar from Dunlap Commandery No 5 traveled to Bangor on June 24 with the Corinna band to mark Bangor Commandery’s 75th anniversary. A parade, banquets, concerts, safety exhibition, and a Bangor Bar Harbor baseball game followed, with extensive city tours and a grand reception at Union Station. The event featured remarks by Bangor mayor Charles D Crosby and Maine Grand Commanders and included a unique all Knights Templar band from Farmington.

Walden son of Mrs Mar Walden of 972 High street Gath June 26 received a diploma as a graduate radio engineer from Maj Gen McK Saltzman chief signal officer US Army at the Army Communications School Camp Alfred ValeNe Walden serving as an enlisted member of the 5th Infantry and stationed at Fort Williams Me completed a nine month course in radio engineering and returns to Fort Williams to complete his enlistment before deciding to remain in the service or enter civilian employment as a qualified radio engineer.
A committal service was held Friday afternoon at Oak Grove for Mrs Ella Lemont Staples wife of Capt Charles F Staples of Bowdoinham who died June 2 1947. Rev George Wilson Scudder led the service with Capt Staples and relatives in attendance.
Miss Maude Hayward wed Harold Leeman in a double ring ceremony at the Hayward home attended by 25 guests. Rev. Edwin Dodge Hardin officiated, with sister Mrs. Charles Crosby as bridesmaid and Myron Bailes as best man. The couple plans a motor trip and will reside on Fitts Street after.
Aviators Harry Jones of Old Orchard and Fred S Williams of Portland arrived in Bath by seaplane from Portland Harbor after a 17 minute flight. The event drew large crowds as planes circled the city and dropped $1 coupons for stores, with George Middleton first to recover a coupon on City Hall roof.
A four year old girl from Smother State visiting Riath relatives wandered away Friday morning, sobbing near a telephone exchange. A kind man helped identify her name, police notified, and she was returned home to a joyful reunion with her mother.
Harry Totman and Mary Ellers of Taath were married Thursday night at eight in the home of the bride's parents Mr and Mrs Amasa Ellers on York street. Rev Sachel Evans officiated. The groom, native of Georgetown, works at Hyde Windlass Co. The bride is a Taath native and a piano teacher. They will honeymoon in Massachusetts and live on Pearl street after returning.
