War Relief Card Party Nets $325 for Britain
The British War Relief card party at Central church parish house cleared over 325 dollars to aid the mobile kitchen unit and knitwear for clothing. It was the city’s largest card party with 76 tables of contract, auction, and whist. prizes honored top scorers including Albert Noyes and Mrs. Leah Strout while numerous volunteers assisted in serving and organizing.

Ensign Frederick E. Drake Jr. of the U. S. Navy Reserve, son of Mr. and Mrs. Drake of 1002 Washington Street, has been ordered to report Monday at the Boston Navy Yard for service. He formerly worked in his father’s insurance firm James B. Drake & Sons and sailed as purser on U. S. Lines steamers to the West Coast, Europe, Africa. Drake attended Bowdoin College class of 1934 and was commissioned an Ensign after naval reserve service. If he passes the Boston Navy Yard physical, he may undergo a brief training before active duty assignment.

The Bath Lions hosted the Brunswick Lions at Hotel Sedgwick with 75 attending a steak dinner. Grube Cornish spoke on juvenile delinquency at the State School for Boys in South Portland. Bath added four new members, bringing January total to 12 and eligibility for the Lions International plaque. The Safety Driving Course instruction car, a joint Lions and Cummings Motors project, will start at Morse High. Brunswick pianist Ernest Stanwood performed, as plans proceed for the ladies night and midwinter frolic on Feb 21. The clubs held a joint business session and inducted more members. Bath plans a novel program for next Wednesday.
