The Bath Board of Education approved a 488 825 dollar school budget for 1954 55 an increase of 57 245 dollars. Superintendent Lor ing R Addison announced the figures this morning and the plan moves to the City Council for final action.
Woolwich Republican Frank R Bailey, currently a Maine state representative and house chairman of the Agriculture Committee, announced his candidacy for Sagadahoc County State Senate in the June primaries. He highlighted his town service, education, and plans to advance agriculture and education while avoiding tax increases.
Mrs John Parker president of the State Garden club federation and conservation chair led a Bath Garden Club session on conservation at her Summer Street home. With help from Mrs Edward B Hamblett and Mrs J Arthur Burgess the group reviewed state and national parks including Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island Bar Harbor under the Interior Department.
John W. Frost of New York City donated a map of the American Continent published in 1794 to Bowdoin College. A Bowdoin alumnus from the Class of 1904, he led the College’s Board of Overseers from 1949 to last June and formerly served as Pleasantville mayor. He now resides in New York City with a summer home in Topsham, Maine where he was born.
Bowdoin College president Dr James Stacy Coles spoke at the Bath Rotary Club on the links between business and liberal arts education. He cited blue chip investments in education, quoted William De Witt Hyde, and urged support for liberal arts as a foundation for wise leadership in business and government.
At the Masonic Temple a Rainbow Girls semi public installation honored Miss Waneta Estes as worthy advisor with Miss Rena Legard and others installing. A large East ern Star and Masonic attendance heard notes on the work and future plans as petitions were ballot ed and a drill team discussed.

The Sasanoa Tribe No. 64 Im proved Order of Red Men Bath presented a 21 inch Capehart television to the Old Ladies Home. Ernest R. Avery chaired the committee with Harold Trask and Robert Burns assisting. The event occurred Monday January 18 and the tribe plans to install another set in their Hall on Front Street next week.
At Grace church parish house the Bath Chapter and Board of the American Red Cross stressed boosting membership. Emerson Zeitler urged a 50 percent rise next year, noting armed forces in 58 countries heighten need. He also called for 20 percent more staff and ongoing blood programs despite Korea war ending.
Stanley Bo Hunter chairman of the Bath City Council proclaims Thursday as Mothers' March Day and asks households to light porch lamps from 7 to 8 pm to invite calls for donations to the March of Dimes. He cites five years of polio cases and urges local support to fund the 1954 campaign and protect children from the disease.
Police Chief Frank L Moriarty says rumors of vicious attacks on Bath residents are completely unfounded and ridiculous. He notes past complaints about an exhibitionist and a Morse High School incident appear to be prank driven and urges residents to verify tips before calling police.
Harry W. Thebeau of 699 H street was named chairman of the Bath and West Bath Heart Fund Drive for 1954. This marks his third year heading the drive locally and coincides with the anniversary of Bath Memorial hospital heart clinic opening. The drive begins immediately with committees to be announced later. Heart Sunday is February 14 and a house to house canvass is planned, with a tag day.
Robert Erskine of 23 Tallman Street returns to his native city after a three year absence, most of it spent in Germany in the French sector with the 42 A 4B Second Armoured Division. He was at Worms, a railroad center of about 90,000, where he found the people friendly and cooks excellent, a detail likely to interest any Maine boy used to good cooking.
State Senator James L. Reed of Augusta will speak at a Sagada hoe County Young Republicans dinner Thursday January 28. A chicken pie dinner begins at 6 30 served by a committee from South End PTA led by Mrs. Carroll Deering and Mrs. Frederick Moffatt. Reservations due by Monday January 25. Nominations of officers occur at the business meeting.
