Opposition Tops Four-County Bridge District Plan
A Bath Kennebec river bridge proposal drew unanimous opposition at a Senate Chamber meeting of Sagadahoc Lincoln Knox and Waldo delegates. Senator Frank W. Carlton outlined a four-county toll bridge plan financed by bond interest, but critics argued the statewide project burden was unfair to border counties. Carlton suggested a legislative committee study suffice, while a joint session in Bath discussed plans for a state owned bridge across the Kennebec river at Bath.

METER MAN SMITH APEDESTRIAN IN COVERING BEAT
Chapion walkers in most any city are the letter carriers. In Bath the man who covers the most distance a month outside Uncle Sam's carriers is Charles F. E. Smith, meter inspector for the Central Maine Power Co. Here but home is at 25 McLellan street, Brunswick. He reads 100 to 150 meters daily, total meters read around 2500 electric and 3500 gas. He began Jan 1, 1919 after Army service at Camp Devens. He keeps 30 books with consumer names, carries a flashlight, and climbs many stairs. He notes meters in basements and attics, and explains dial readings. He wastes no time if a customer is away. He wears out shoes and batteries, credits radios with boosting company profits, and lists running costs for common appliances. (Continued from Wage Wight)
