Early Morning Fire Destroys Morse Lumber Mill
A Saturday morning blaze destroyed the Morse Lumber Mill in Phippsburg causing an estimated loss of 15000 to 20000. Owner John G Morse Jr said insurance may cover some costs. Bath Fire Department responded at 5 40 with aid from Police and local officers. The fire employed several crews and hoses with water pumped from Winneganee Lake. Eight workers and woods crews were affected, and the mill built in 1944 replaced a prior fire damaged structure. Investigators from the Arson Division were called in to determine the cause.
