Payson seeks GOP nomination in June primary for Maine seat
John B. Payson a 38 year old Portland banker from a prominent Maine family announced he would seek the Republican nomination to Congress from the First Maine District in the June primary. He is among five Republicans challenging Rep. Simon M Hamlin. Payson favors a reasonable extension of aid to the aged and outlined five planks: budget economy, relief and pensions, opposition to government in business, agricultural relief via state boards, and decentralization. He left Yale for army service and after graduation joined his father in business before running a marine hardware firm. he is vice president of First National Bank, an avid yachtsman and hunter.

A one story brick structure housing Lincoln County Motors Co garage and salesroom in Damariscotta was destroyed by fire Friday with an estimated loss of 50000. Eleven new passenger cars and 17 in winter storage were destroyed along with a truck loaded with fruits and vegetables owned by Samuel Jacobson of Portland. Firefighters faced gasoline explosions as each car caught fire. Two nearby buildings were threatened. E M Blount of Boston is president of the Motors Company.

Prisoners Escape City Hall Lockup
Two prisoners escaped from the City Hall lockup Monday evening between 8 30 and 11 o clock. Frank Cole 18 and Atwell Getchell 36 of Winslow were held for Sagadahoc Superior court. They sawn through a padlock on the court room passage door, climbed to the court room, opened a south window and dropped to the ground. Night Captain McElman found the break at 1 10 a.m. and the pair were gone. Local police suspect outside help via a mechanical tool passed through the cell room grill.

Charles Yeaton son of Mr and Mrs Arthur C Yeaton of 30 Shepley street Auburn has attracted comment at the Tash studio Main street Lewiston this week. His interest began at Tufts amateur theatricals and he later worked with the College Players as makeup man and with the Ogunquit Players this summer. This is his second public exhibit of masks.
