Firemen battled a Friday forenoon blaze that gutted the two story Albion H. Johnson residence on the Brunswick road. From a box alarm to a still alarm, 800 feet of hose was laid as water was drawn from Diamond Spring ice pond. Fire Chief Richard Frates said defective smoke pipes started the fire, which consumed the interior and left only partial wall standing with two chimneys still upright. The incident marked the second major Johnson home fire in recent years and followed a string of chimney-originating events in two days.

Superior Court Opens Term with One Indictment
