H R Brooke and F X Kein attended a New York preview for the 1949 Chevrolet passenger cars. The cars debut publicly at 102 Center Street on Jan 22 with a gala announcement day. About 800 regional dealers joined a luncheon and color show while Chevrolet officials outlined features and plans for the release. Brooke praised the styling and leadership ahead of announcement day.
Motorists using the new highway to Portland skirt Yarmouth on the West and cut travel time by at least ten minutes. The route avoids the old road’s many sharp curves and blind sections, reducing danger with the volume of trucks and hurried travel.

Celebration marks Truman citizenship pledge for American Indians with a pow wow at Radio City Museum of Science and Industry. The January event featured 500 chiefs princesses and tribal members with Chief Crazy Bull and Wood carving led by Chief Young Deer of the Mohawks. Royal attendees included Princess Iona and Chief White Eagle acting as host with notable Winnebago and Sioux participants and dance performances.
State Representatives Howard Larrabee and J Horace McClure resume legislative duties at the State Capitol after a Bath weekend. Miss Joanne MacDonald daughter of Louis C MacDonald of 14 Hinckley street appeared on WRDO Augusta Saturday on Meet the Mike winning a cash prize. She is a second grade pupil at Mitchell School in Bath.
