Morse High School introduces a broad exploratory course for freshmen titled Science Of Living. It covers home life duties for boys and girls, including food selection, breakfast planning, clothes care, and wood tools, with psychology and biology relevant to daily tasks. The program aims to foster mutual understanding and prepare students for future work and life.
Sidney L. Eaton announces Disaster Institute events for the Bath chapter of the American Red Cross. Special field representative Beatrice K. Cabelus will visit for two days to meet with local disaster committees, with a public meeting at Sedgwick House Tuesday evening to discuss Red Cross disaster responsibilities.
Bath welcomed the New Year with numerous celebrations across the city. The Junior Hospital League ball drew a large crowd despite rain, while the Elks Lodge and Bath Avenue of Eagles hosted lively gatherings with dancing and festive favors.
Bath officials and residents heard a blunt briefing from Edwin R. Andrews on worsening student crowding as 89 West Bath pupils plus new births strain existing rooms. The board urged quick action including possible Huse Memorial and Mitchell school expansions and a public referendum on a school district to fund construction.
The Bath Customs office documented fourteen vessels in 1948, far fewer than a century earlier. Of these, four were built in 1948 with Bath as home port Argo Ruth Mary Dorothy E and Viking. The remaining ten were built earlier and later added as documented home ports, including Catherine C Corsair Balmy Days Brigadoon Bobby Alice Wentworth Ursa Lou Ann Greyhound and Estella A. Additionally thirty two trawlers launched in Bath in 1947 and 1948 were not documented as they are listed as foreign vessels.
Miss Betty Ann Barstow of Middle Street and Miss Marjorie Hale of Freeport attended the Ice Capades in Boston Sunday.
Mrs. John Rines of 267 Center Street and her son John Jr attended the Ice Capades in Boston on Sunday, enjoying the performance together.
Col Dummer Sewall chapter DAR met at Central church with Peace Patterns of Brotherhood as the program title directed by Mrs Lena King. 85 members attended as talks on nations and current events blended with songs from China France Germany England Mexico Canada and the Indian theme.
