Maine crafted suit from Wooly Hippo wool worn by ex governor Gardiner
Ex Governor William Tudor Gardiner received a suit woven entirely from Maine grown wool produced on his Phips Point farm. Mrs. Gardiner Davis spun the cloth on a hand loom, using a diamond tweed design, washed in a brook, then tailored by Augusta's Fred Gagnon who completed every stitch. The project, named Wooly Hippo by the Gardiner children, showcases homespun Maine craftsmanship.
