Ice floe breaks loose trapping twelve on Kennebec river
Twelve residents from North End including two girls and three boys were stranded on a moving ice floe in the Kennebec Friday noon. Neighbors maneuvered in skiffs and gunboats to rescue them as the floe drifted down river, dragging eight shanties and threatening the bridge approach.

Nathaniel T. Palmer recalls the 1880s voyage of the Bath bark Endeavor from Portland to Bridgton Barbadoes with a sugar cargo. A 70 foot sea, bow and bowsprit damage, and a heroic bid by Seth H. Besse and Edgar C. Harrington to reach the vessel ended with their deaths. Palmer describes the peril, the crew’s fear, and the aftermath as the ship pressed on to Barbadoes.

Mrs Lena I Robertson of 51 Court Street Augusta is the sole Maine woman stenographic reporter who has handled sessions alone in the House. She says she would not attempt the special session as it is described as the most talkative in history. High School Boys Grow Record Potato Harvest in Aroostook
Sixteen county high school boys on one acre plots produced 3 163 barrels of potatoes in the Agrico contest, averaging 198 barrels per acre and earning over 5 000 dollars. Almond Edgecomb led with 215 97 barrels. Prizes totaled 450 dollars plus a 600 dollar Maine College of Agriculture scholarship.
