The Industrial Workers' club of Bath hosted a New Year's Eve celebration at the USO hall from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., with over 300 industrial workers and guests enjoying music, a film, and varied acts. Smeltville Struck by Winds Flooding and Lost Camps
A severe storm battered Smeltville at Arrowsic with high winds rain and a record ice break up. About 200 camps were lost or damaged as shanties floated away along Route 1 and drifted to Hockomock bay. Dozens of camps were salvaged while oil heaters and gear vanished in the wreckage. Fishing prospects had been strong with catches reported before the breakup.

Infant dies from coal gas in Bath trailer
Arthur Joseph Reno aged one, son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Reno of Route One West Bath, suffocated when coal gas entered their trailer home. Demerise Reno, 20, found her brother and his wife Emily unconscious. baby dead. Medical Examiner ruled accidental coal gas poisoning likely from a faulty chimney connection and poor draft due to heavy air conditions. The couple survived. funeral planned for this afternoon.
