Bath Iron Works announces retirement of key officers
William S. Newell president of Bath Iron Works Corp. disclosed a retirement plan for employees reaching age 65 at end of 1946.. Several officers will retire while Newell remains chairman and M. Archibald Main becomes vice chairman as William Schulze is named treasurer. Newell and Trowbridge will guide transition with several other executives also reaching retirement age.

Morgan's Corsair To Become Luxury Cruiser
The Corsair, a Bath Iron Works built yacht of 2181 gross tons and 343 feet, was in Brooklyn dry dock for overhaul as a commercial cruise ship. Skinner & Eddy Corp of Seattle plans 45 new cabins and a lounge, with 85 to 90 passengers and 80 crew, after extensive system repairs and interior reconfiguration.

Destroyer Docks After Thrilling Trip Up Coast
The partially completed destroyer USS Epperson built by Federal Shipbuilding Co. in Kearny New Jersey was docked at Bath Iron Works after a rough tow from New York. The Moran Towage Co. tug Eugenia Moran faced a heavy snowstorm and had to turn back, riding out the storm in Boston area. The Epperson entered the Kennebec River at 9 50 this morning and spent about two hours being brought upriver to Bath. The ship is a sister to USS Owens from Boston Navy Yard and remains under completion.

Navy Accepts Demolition Bid for Former Receiving Buildings
Charles H. Marble of South Street was notified that the Navy accepted his $5,200 bid to raze the former Navy Receiving buildings on Western Avenue. Bids opened November 21 in Portland were sent to Washington for approval, which was granted Friday. Marble began razing Saturday, with restoration to original condition for Hyde estate lessees. Two buildings remain, one already moved for veteran housing in Massachusetts. city seeks to recoup via recreation facilities.

Brunswick Votes on Parking Meters in Jan 4 Session

Fire destroys K P Hall in Friday blaze at 810 Washington
Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters hall at 810 Washington street suffered heavy damage from a Friday morning fire. Chief Engineer Richard Frates cited a defective chimney as the likely cause. Firefighters battled the stubborn blaze for about ninety minutes in freezing conditions, with water and smoke damage widespread despite the main lodge and several rooms escaping flames. Regalia stored near the chimney was lost. No one was in the building. A baked bean supper was planned for that evening.

Former Bath Man Leads Keyes Fiber Co. Waterville Plant
Galen Watson, born Oct. 28, 1888 in Bath, rose from shipyard worker to general superintendent at Keyes Fiber Co. in Waterville. He learned machinist trade at Hyde Windlass, helped build Keyes machines in 1926-27, then stayed on to manage the plant. The Watsons hosted friends at their Waterville and Bath residences.

Training Ship Yankee States Sails Monday
The Yankee States training ship of the Maine and Massachusetts academies left Bath after repairs. It will sail Jan 2 on a 90 day cruise to Southern waters with midshipmen, visiting Cas tine Boston Port of Spain and Cristobal before returning to Castine. Sixty five cadets from Castine join in Bath and 75 from Bourne after Canal transit.
