Arrowsic Captain Drowns After Tanker Explosion Blaze
Captain Charles H. Campbell 42 of Arrowsic drowned after an explosion and fire aboard the 56 foot oil tanker Governor Douglas at South Portland dock. Oiler Raymond F. Doughty 20 of Arrowsic was critically burned after leaping into icy water to rescue Campbell. Fire crews battled two more blasts as the tanker, loaded with 12 000 gallons of high grade gasoline at Ligonia dock, burned and sank. Charles H. Campbell remains missing as rescue efforts continued.

Bath firemen battled near zero weather Sunday to stop a blaze at the Masonic Temple. An overheated chimney likely started the fire, which spread through a blind attic and damaged the main roof, with $5 000 to $6 000 in losses.
