Alvah Hildreth of Topsham preserves a 125 year old sleigh imported from England by his great grandfather William Randall. The canopy top, canvas paint, and leather braces keep it cradle-like and comfortable. The sleigh, in the family since its first appearance in America, is said to be unique in New England.

That Submarine Boat by Simon Lake Sets Record Ambitions
Simon Lake advances a new submarine cruiser planned to exceed current naval subs in size and speed. The craft aims for 14 knots surface, 16 knots peak, 9.9 submerged. 161 feet long, displacement about seven times the Holland. It will not dive but rise and sink with an even keel, carry six torpedo tubes, a bottom door, wheels to roll on the seabed, gasoline power, and a 3000 mile surface steaming radius, with May 1910 projection.

Chester Returns Tomorrow After Naval Trials at Bath
The new scout cruiser Chester, now at Charlestown navy yard, will return to Bath Iron Works tomorrow after dry dock work. It will anchor at Parker's Flats tonight and move to Bath in the morning. Officials report readiness for 24 knot four hour trial and 24 hour endurance tests with 22.5 knot average and 1.8 knots per ton coal use.
