The Bath blaze began at Sagadahock stables and spread through the business district destroying the Sagadahock House and other buildings after a water main failure left no supply. The Times suffered as its newsroom was in the burned area.
Mrs Winfred M Hagan was installed as most excellent chief of Lowell Temple Pythian Sisters with Mary C Elder leading a full slate. Delegations from Portland Lewiston Auburn Boothbay and Brunswick attended a banquet and floral gifts were exchanged including a 25 year service pin for Miss Sophia Mikels.
Mrs Horace W Ward and sister Mrs John E Atwood hosted the Past Noble Grands club of Queen Esther Rebekah lodge at Ward home on Bedford Street. Supper at 6 30 followed by a business meeting planning the second annual Gentlemen night in February with Mrs Albert H Thompson chairing. February meeting hosted by Mrs Leonard M Lord and Mrs Alfred H Bunker. Three tables of contract winners: Roger W Pierce first prize crocheted bag, Thompson second prize plant pot, Herbert W McCabe third prize bridge scoring set.
The Morgan Memorial's quarterly paper The Goodwill is mailed to 225000 Boston homes. The issue promotes the Goodwill Bags used for collecting cast-off items, supporting Morgan Memorial’s workshops that provide jobs and wages. It urges timely filling of Idle Bags to sustain work and family income.
The Democratic city committee met Friday night and set February 16 as the date for the general caucus to nominate a mayoral candidate and ward tickets. The caucus will be held in City Hall auditorium, matching the Republican timing for their ward caucuses.

A traveling exhibit of 28 master works arrives at Morse High School Library open to students and the public through February 11 during school hours. Curated by the Maine University Art Department, the collection includes Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Rembrandt, Rubens, Watteau and others from Dover-Foxcroft Bath.
Mayor Arthur Sewall notified the Republican city committee of his renomination bid and ex-Councilman Donald N Small announced his candidacy at the initial meeting. The caucus for mayor is set for February 17 at City Hall auditorium. Ward caucuses follow February 16 with strong tickets planned as Republicans aim for a March 7 municipal election victory.
Morse High athletic officials have arranged for 100 additional reserved seats by placing seats on the side and ends of the court for the Morse Cheverus basketball game. Reservations are being taken by athletic director Henry D. Small. The gym had been sold out a week ago and may still be full. those who missed a seat should call Mr. Small again.
The Extension Service and Farm Bureau establish a Speakers Bureau led by E. L. White of Bowdoinham and others to provide talks on agriculture and home economics across Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties. A roster lists speakers with topics from dairying to 4-H and home economics. requests and assignments are handled via Box 778 Lewiston.
Mr and Mrs Everett T Green of 66 Bowery announce the marriage of their daughter Madeline G Green to Alton S Stimpson in the city on January 20 at Central church parsonage with Dr David L Wilson officiating. The couple will reside in Bath after a reception at Theodore Stimpson’s Topsham home and a wedding trip through New Hampshire. Stimpson, son of Arthur Stimpson of Brunswick, works for Pejepscot Paper Co Topsham.
Officers of Bath camp 7407 Modern Woodmen of America were installed Wednesday of last week by Post Consul C W Tedford assisted by Major Fred L Stover. Rolvin H Bowie won high score for the evening and month. Installed: Charles C Toothaker consul J W Roy past consul John Stewart adviser William H White treasurer W J Ketchum escort Harry Warner watchman Ralph Boardman sentry Fred A Bowie trustee three years. Mrs Earl W Twitchell of Haddonfield N J visits her mother Mrs Davis Hatch for two weeks.
Sheriff Charles W Messenger said authorities print and mail circulars with a photo and description of James G Walker Jr to law enforcement agencies in the region and Canada in a bid to arrest him for larceny of a Chevrolet truck from Acme Supply Co and a $47 bad check. The city marshal also filed a second warrant over the unsigned Philadelphia check used to cash the theft truck, linked to a $500 cigarette theft at Howard Cigar Co. Police tie the truck tire marks to the cigar store burglary and note Walker visited Bath mid January after a prior summer visit.
Sherwood Aldrich of Topsham Sagadahoc county announces bid for Republican nomination for county attorney. Born in Montclair New Jersey he is a Bowdoin and Boston University graduate practicing with his father Ellis L Aldrich in Brunswick. He is a Topsham trial justice, married with one son. Rumor says Bath councilman Charles J Small Jr may join the race against incumbent Ralph O Dale.
Berwindglen, a collier outbound from Newport News, docked at Kennebec Wharf & Coal Co. on Thursday morning after a 72 hour voyage carrying about 6,600 tons of bituminous coal. A southeast storm Monday night and a counterstorm from the north slowed progress, with the ship anchoring off Block Island before reaching Seguin and entering the river at dawn.
Ladies' aid of First Baptist church met at Mrs. Herbert R. Luce's home on 900 High Street with 14 members present. They scheduled a baked bean supper for February 5 featuring baked beans, brown bread, cabbage salad, pickles, hot rolls, pies, tea and coffee. Committee heads include dining room Mrs. Cedric A. Martin and Mrs. Ed wy A. Sotheard, kitchen Mrs. Willis B. Hall and Mrs. Freeman Crosby, soliciting Mrs. Clifford B. Harrington and others, candy table Mrs. Joseph L. Dauphin, and tickets handled by Mrs. Edward Cook.

A second note reports a push to expand the South Kennebec Fair in Windsor toward a county wide event on a pay as you go basis with emphasis on agricultural exhibits and entertainment.
