A proposed new road south of the area would intersect Route 1 at several points. Poor soil conditions could raise costs by a million dollars or more. A one way use of Route 1 and other schemes were rejected due to land costs, impact on existing businesses, and design flaws. The project could total about 5.32 million dollars plus 220 thousand for urban rebuild, with federal and state funding to cover costs.

Hyde Hospital Lights Up Christmas Tree Tradition
Patients at Hyde Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital enjoy a giant spruce tree on the grounds lit for the 13th year. Ed ward J. McMann funded the lights with help from the local fire department. Fred Pecci scaled the tree with over 100 lights assisted by Wesley Simpson and Willard McCabe. Children at the hospital said the tree resembles the president’s. A Maine shipboard spruce once linked to President Eisenhower's goodwill tour was spotlighted nearby.
