Bath readers recall the Morning Star VI, the old white sailing ship that departed Boston Harbor in summer 1947 for the South Pacific and recently sank in Micronesia without casualties. Judge Gardiner R Deering found no probable cause on a breaking and entering charge stemming from a shotgun theft allegedly involving two unknown youths. the gun was reportedly bought from two boys.
At a Sagadahoc Gun and Skeet Club meeting in Bath, debate over a Maine registration bill targeted at firearms, including a six inch or shorter barrel listing, drew attendance from Bath police chief Frank Moriarty Navy officers and local officials. Concerns about future gun control and wedge effects were voiced by many members. Kenneth Jaquith reported a successful November turkey shoot, and plans for a nominating committee for January were announced. No loss estimate or cause available. only charred outer walls remained.

Woolwich volunteers responded at 2 15 am to a small fire on the Bluffs burning leaves grass junipers and stumps. Fourteen men battled the blaze quickly guiding it to containment. Fire Chief James R Hay noted unusually dry surface conditions and said the fire began in an area where brush was burned a day earlier on Blair Bailey's property under permit.

The Daughters of Isabella held a Christmas party last Tuesday with a social hour and games. Refreshments were served from a decorated table, and gifts were exchanged. Mrs. Lena Fortier chaired the event with assistants Mrs. Fournier Sirois Vaillan Miss Phyllis Katula Mrs. Nellie Johnson and Mrs. Mildred Young.
The Dike Washington Street PTA met at Dike school on Thursday evening at eight for a brief session and Christmas party. They voted to give the janitor a gift. Gifts were exchanged, carols sung, and a skit Seee School presented by Hockomock Council Play. Refreshments were served by First Grade mothers and others. The next meeting is January 15 at the Washington Street primary.
Sasanoa Tribe Red Men entertained about 75 members of the order at a Monday meeting. The Chief's degree was conferred by Degree Ten of Yarmouth, with Bath and Orr's Island participants. Members from Portland, Yarmouth, New Gloucester, Orr's Island and Pemaquid attended. Lunch followed. adoption degree planned for next Monday.
The Salvation Army Ladies Home League met on Thursday with Capt. Jessie Jones and Mrs. Sarah Brooks leading devotions. They packed 265 Sunshine baskets containing Kleenex, mints, raisins, life savers, Nabs, a handkerchief, candy, and an orange. Distributions went to Memorial hospital and several elder care and welfare homes in Brunswick and Newcastle. A Christmas tree program was planned for New Year's Eve.
The Bath Hebrew Ladies Society met at the home of Dr and Mrs Benjamin Zimmerman at 390 Washington last Tuesday evening. Officers were reelected: Mrs Levine as president, Mrs Larry Katz as vice president, Mrs Kurt Diamont as secretary, Mrs Jesse Levin as corresponding secretary, and Mrs Jacob Smith as treasurer.

Inner Wheel members gathered Thursday at 40 Summer Street the Parker home for a Christmas party with festive decorations. Gifts were exchanged with Miss Ann Bussey as a guest and refreshments served by Mrs. Hill Mrs. Merrill and Mrs. Main.
At a Lions Club meeting members donated toys and a cash gift for the Salvation Army, accepted by Capt. Jesse Jones and Capt. Helen Augusta. Sgt. Ackman, USAF, spoke on air observation posts and civilian observers supplementing radar. The club plans cooperation with the Bath project and notes Ladies Night on Friday Jan 9.
The Sedgwick hosted a Bath Pro onal and Women's Club supper last week at 6 30 with large attendance. A pot roast meal was served in the big dining room using three tables. Each place held a Christmas corsage and tables had red candles greens and small trimmed trees. A large tree stood as a centerpiece.
A Christmas gathering with carols led by Mrs. Carl Albee was held as guests enjoyed tinsel and lights. The group voted to place Louisa May Alcott books in the Patten Free Library children’s room, funded by the event. The choral group, with Mrs. Albee at the piano, performed three numbers. Committee members include Almeda Genthner, Lillian Heal, Marguerite Kane and Gladys Grant.
Club Forty-Two members met Wednesday to plan a Sunday 2 30 children's event and a January 7 club activity. Amendments were approved for the annual meeting on January 7. Weekly prize was donated by Miss Edith Small and awarded to Mrs. Leonard Smith.
The Far and Near Society of Corliss Street church met in the vestry. Committees reported, ill members were named for remembrance, and a new member Mrs Jessie Norton was welcomed. Mrs Harold Allen led the program with scripture and carols. Twenty attended.
Mizpah Class of the First Baptist Church met December 16 at Mrs Adeline Black s home with 10 members present. Devotions were led by the president and each member repeated favorite Bible verses. Reports on the December 13 fair and baked bean supper were favorable as one of the most successful ever. Plans for a Christmas tree and supper were set for December 30 with a trip to Brunswick for supper at 630 and a tree later at a member s home. Transportation arrangements were handled by Mrs Gertrude Buffam. Continued on page three.
