Bath Iron Works Corp. secured contracts from the Navy for two Ocean Escort vessels and three new type destroyers. The Ocean Escorts, DE1006 duplicates, are 341 feet long with 1817 tons trial displacement, priced at 14.9 million dollars. The three destroyers DD931 932 933 measure 418 feet, 45 feet beam, about 318 tons displacement, priced at 27.525 million dollars. Gibbs & Cox will handle design and procurement. 31 yards bid, BIW offered the lowest. Construction expected 1955 1956 with about 3500 local workers employed.
