Stripping Salmon Eggs Season Concludes Amid Low Water

The Hatchery Division of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Game finished egg stripping for this season after unusually warm water slowed natural spawning. Crews in Rangeley, Sebago, West Grand Lake, Cross Lake, Kokadjo, and Moosehead tributaries collected over 1 percent million eggs for distribution to Caribou, Littleton, Moosehead, Gosoc, Raymond, and Enfield hatcheries. Despite low water earlier, late fall rains aided harvest, enabling heavier hatchery stocking to support future stocking programs.
