A young deer, wounded with its right foreleg missing, swam the Kennebec River from Woolwich to Bath and lingered in a Bath doctor's driveway. Dr Edward E Barry and veteran gunners suspect a bullet or barbed wire caused the injury, not a dog. The deer headed toward Washington Street after a brief rest. two iron workers noted chasing it and a rifle or backfire was heard nearby.
