Winter Storm Paralyzes Local Roads With Snow and Ice
A four to five inch snowfall followed by heavy rain and gale winds left roads slick and traffic gridlocked. Highways and city streets faced washouts of sand as rain washed away salt. Taxi services ferried stuck motorists while one cab fire on Tarbox Street drew Engine 3. Main routes from Bath to Portland suffered long delays as crews battled ice and water on hills and bridges.
