Bath Iron Works Corp led a field of ten bidders with a bid of 96,500 for a 93 foot diesel towboat for B. Turecamping Co of Brooklyn N Y. The eight month delivery target ships with a 750 horsepower diesel. Other bids ranged up to 137,006 with varying delivery times. Brown & Demarest designed the vessel, to have a 28 foot beam and 11 foot depth.

Johnson of Moorestown New Jersey has been loaned to the Smithsonian Institute for deep sea soundings and geology research in the Caribbean Porto Rico Deep. Fitted at the Tebo Basin Brooklyn it is expected to sash Jan 15 return March 15 or April 1. Dr Paul Barth will lead scientists and a photographer on a mixed scientific and pleasure voyage with guests including Mr and Mrs Leon Douglas and their daughters Florence and Ena. The vessel, designed by Henry J Gieme Inc, is a modern highly equipped private cruiser with navigation gear long range radio a fathometer and storage for 114255 gallons of water.
