Water District Seeks Tax Exemption in Woolwich Dispute

Gleaves Destroyer Launched at Bath Iron Works
The U S Gleaves 1630 ton destroyer was launched from Bath Iron Works on Saturday at 11 20 in a ceremony with sponsors Miss Clotilda Cohen and Miss Evelina Van Metre. About 2 500 spectators watched as champagne bottles broke and the band played the National Anthem. The keel of the Ludlow will be laid on the vacated ways, marking the next Bath project.

Bust of Admiral Albert Gleaves sculpted by Belle Kinney Scholz, presented to the City of Nashville on Armistice Day by the U S government. The Nashville native earned the Victory Medal with star and Distinguished Service Medals from both services, with foreign decorations from France Japan China and Czechoslovakia. He directed at sea fueling and charted the deepest Atlantic spot, led the Mayflower voyage, and built the first U S torpedo factory after study abroad. Born 1858 in Nashville, he rose from the Naval Academy to Rear Admiral in 1915 and Vice Admiral later.
