Rev Timothy C Maney denounces a proposal during all three masses at St Marys church drawing strong opposition from him and many parishioners. Fr Maney points out concerns as he leads the service.
New figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources show 18 percent of manufacturing workers are World War II veterans. In autos the share reaches 27 percent, GM reports 35 percent veterans with only 0.2 percent discharged. Continuous production is seen as key to sustained jobs.
Laid up merchant ships moored along the coast resemble ghosts from wartime, but are in the National Defense Reserve Fleet. The process keeps them in trim to serve as a bulwark against wars. Fire hazards are removed and ships prepared for possible activation.
A plan connects laid up ships to the shore by air lines, costing 1.8 million dollars to construct. The project aims to ease cargo movement and reduce dockside congestion by linking vessels to carriers with new aerial connections.
